What the money titles tell us
Only 30 players have led the PGA Tour money list in the 69 seasons from 1958 to 2026. Tiger Woods has 10 of them, and the longest run belongs to Scottie Scheffler, who led 5 seasons in a row from 2022 to 2026.
The prize for finishing first has grown with the purses. Arnold Palmer led in 1958 with $42,608. Scottie Scheffler led in 2026 with $30,937,525, 726 times as much. The most lopsided race was 2026, decided by $15,869,043. The closest was 1964, decided by $82.
Dominance is better measured as a share of all the money paid, because purses keep growing. On that measure Tiger Woods's 2000 season stands out: 6.0% of everything the tour paid that year went to one player.
